I was born and raised in Johannesburg, where I pursued my education in geology, mining, and management at the University of Johannesburg, the University of the Witwatersrand, and the University of Cape Town. Over the past 20+ years, I’ve advanced through various roles, eventually becoming a Geoscience Manager at a gold operation. Now, as the Programme Manager for the Advanced Orebody Knowledge at the Mandela Mining Precinct, I leverage my extensive experience, skills, and passion for innovation to drive positive change and contribute to the development of the mining industry.
What defining moment or experience set you on your path, and how has it shaped who you are today?
Reflecting on my journey, I’ve had several defining moments that shaped my path and contributed to who I am today. However, I believe two stand out:
Starting my career as a geologist in the Evander goldfields over 20 years ago was a pivotal moment. This experience provided me with hands-on knowledge of geological processes and the practical aspects of mining operations. It laid the foundation for my expertise in geology and sparked my interest in the mining sector.
Another defining moment which redirected my career, was joining the MMP and transitioning into research and innovation. This decision highlighted my proactive approach to staying abreast of industry advancements and my commitment to driving innovation and sustainability in mining practices.
In what ways do you hope your journey will inspire and pave the way for future generations of women in your field?
Excelling in my career as a geologist and later as a Geoscience Manager, serves as a living example for young women who aspire to enter the geosciences field, especially in traditionally male-dominated industries like mining. My achievements will encourage more women to pursue leadership positions and diverse career paths. Through my story of perseverance and success, I aim to inspire confidence and ambition in young women, showing them that they can achieve remarkable success with dedication and passion.
My passion for people is reflected in my leadership style, which strongly emphasizes fostering inclusive workplaces where diverse perspectives are acknowledged and valued. By championing diversity initiatives and supporting the development of women in mining, I have contributed to creating more inclusive environments that empower and uplift future generations.
My commitment to mentorship and support, particularly for women and young professionals, is unwavering. My guidance, shared experiences, and words of encouragement can support aspiring women, helping them navigate challenges and seize career opportunities.

What’s a book, movie, or song that has had a significant impact on your life or career and how?
“Unbreakable” by Sia resonates deeply with its empowering message of resilience and strength. I find inspiration in its lyrics, which speak to overcoming challenges and staying strong in the face of adversity. Whenever I feel down or need motivation, I play this song to shift my mindset, reminding me to stay focused on the end goal and move forward despite the obstacles ahead.
What’s your go-to hobby or activity that helps you unwind after a long day?
Currently I enjoy exploring Egyptian History which includes documentaries that delve into the ancient civilization’s culture, architecture and mythology. Sometimes when I feel creative, I design and draw different concepts and ideas, this might include some further reading and research into specific areas. If I had a bad day or are just frustrated, I will engage in strategic online gaming. My favourite pass time though is to listen to music-any genre and play with my dog Abbie.
