Tell us about yourself and what you do

I started my career as a researcher in the forestry and environmental area (given my degree in Forestry). Over time, I transitioned into project and operations management, where I apply a strong work ethic and effective communication skills. My main focus in recent years has been supporting teams administratively and using my writing skills to produce clear and concise plans, guidelines and reports.  I am pretty task focused and energetic and enjoy using my skills to ensure successful outcomes in whatever I set my mind to.  I have several years of experience in operational management, human resource management and basic business and project management, with a background in scientific research – pretty much a jack of all trades.

What defining moment or experience set you on your path, and how has it shaped who you are today?

Difficult question to answer given my age (60 🙂) as there have probably been several such moments in my career.   However, I would say that the most impactful moments have come from the presence of excellent managers in my life. Their exceptional mentorship, unwavering support, and the safety net they’ve provided when things didn’t go as planned have been invaluable to me, both personally and professionally.

In what ways do you hope your journey will inspire and pave the way for future generations of women in your field?

I guess the fact that I’m now working in a field completely different from what I originally trained for speaks volumes. It’s a reminder that your degree or training is simply a foundation—a license to practice—but ultimately, you can pursue anything you set your heart to. I also find great fulfillment in providing mentorship to others, guiding them along their journey where I can make a difference.

What values and principles have guided you throughout your career and life, helping you to forge your unique path?

A can-do attitude is incredibly valuable, along with a strong service orientation, a genuine eagerness to help, and a preference for supporting from behind the scenes rather than being in the spotlight. I take pride in being a strong supporter. My faith has been a guiding light in my life, shaping the principles I choose to live by. I strive to be a positive person, deeply grateful for the many blessings in my life, and I approach each day with gratitude and joy.

What’s a book, movie, or song that has had a significant impact on your life or career and how?

As an avid reader who enjoys 50 – 60 books a year, many of which have left a lasting impact, it’s hard to pinpoint just one book. However, if I had to highlight a couple, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey stands out from a professional standpoint—its timeless lessons on effectiveness are still highly relevant today. Another would be The Shack by William P. Young, which encourages a broader perspective on life. It reminds us to look beyond the surface, embracing the deeper lessons rather than getting caught up in facts and small details.

What’s your go-to hobby or activity that helps you unwind after a long day?

I have several of these – I enjoy running, hiking, baking, working in my garden, reading books and bird watching.  Also really enjoy spending time with my special friends over cappuccino and cheesecake!  I am a little ADHD and so don’t sit still for long.

“I am too magnificent to let negative people, politicians and events rob me of my belief that life is actually really good, that people are also inherently good and that I can make a difference in people’s lives that live within my sphere of influence. ”
