Tell us about yourself and what you do
I am an ambitious geology graduate from a small town in KwaZulu Natal, Newcastle. I am currently completing my PhD at Wits University, and I am also a Geoscience Intern at MMP.
What defining moment or experience set you on your path, and how has it shaped who you are today?
My defining moment has to be when I first started working at MMP, I had no industry experience and I had the opportunity to gain immeasurable industry experience. I was finally able to make a decision about my long-term career aspirations as I had been exposed to both research and the operations side of geology.
In what ways do you hope your journey will inspire and pave the way for future generations of women in your field?
While organizations like WIMSA already provide hope for women in mining, I hope my journey gives women affirmation that they will always have a place in this industry and that their contributions are irreplaceable.
What values and principles have guided you throughout your career and life, helping you to forge your unique path?
The values and principles that have guided me throughout my journey are integrity, accountability, and honesty. I always try and do things to the best of my ability as I uphold ethical values and I always strive to add value to whichever organisation or project I am working on.
What’s a book, movie, or song that has had a significant impact on your life or career and how?
Atomic Habits by James Clear has helped me to create a healthy working schedule while ensuring that my personal life and healthy lifestyle are maintained. It has also given me the guidance I need to develop healthy habits.
What’s your go-to hobby or activity that helps you unwind after a long day?
Jogging always boosts my energy and mood. I feel refreshed and relaxed after a scenic jog.
